This first artifact is a recording of myself singing "Una donna a quindici anni" from Cosi fan Tutte by Mozart, an aria I perfected during my study in Italy. This performance was recorded a week after my return from Spoleto in order to document the artistic progress I made during my study in Italy. Unfortunately, videos of scenes and aria concerts from Spoleto were lost during the voyage back to Cincinnati. Hopefully, this recording will suffice in demonstrating my new ability to communicate in music via increased understanding of the language.
The second artifact is a paragraph in Italian describing my experiences, as evidence of my language skills improvements. For two hours each day, we studied advanced grammar and detailed vocabulary via analysis of Italian libretti in order to improve our understanding of the character of the language. While the combination of my Italian teacher’s enthusiasm and the intensive lessons was enough to help me understand the depth of the relationship between language and music, interaction with the Italian people demonstrated the gravity of this relationship in Italian culture. The photograph was taken on a weekend voyage to Rome with a few of my young artist friends. Such short trips were encouraged in order to deepen our understanding of Italian culture and history.
L'estate scorsa, ho viaggiato in Italia per Spoleto. Ho studiato musica e ho parlato Italiano. Ho studiato con molti studenti e professori CCM. Ho amato l'Italia. Ho imparato a conoscere la musica e la vita.
A Spoleto, ho cantato in teatro.
