Honors Experiential Learning Project Proposal Form – Global Studies
Project Information
1. Provide a brief overview/abstract of your proposed honors experiential learning project.
The CCM Spoleto Festival is a special five-week music program in Italy that creates a secluded environment for intensive study in vocal performance and cultural immersion. Students participating in the festival receive private vocal lessons twice a week, coach with accomplished opera directors in advanced opera scenes, and meet with world famous coaches to perfect solo pieces. CCM Spoleto also offers daily two-hour Italian classes, which promote fluency and true cultural understanding of Italy. The festival also provides ample opportunities to explore different aspects of Italian culture by encouraging study at Italian museums and weekend trips to other cities near the Spoleto area, such as Florence and Rome. I will be participating in the CCM Spoleto Festival from July 10th to August 14th.
2. Clearly state how each of the following elements will be exhibited in your work (refer to the first two pages of this document with the full description of what is expected in each of these areas).
3. Reflection & Dissemination
I expect to keep a detailed journal of my classes, challenges, and improvements during the festival and I plan to write a reflective essay describing my Spoleto experience as a whole. I will also display my improved understanding of the Italian language by writing a brief paragraph in Italian about my time in Spoleto; I will upload this document onto my e-portfolio. Along with these written works, I will present real evidence of my work in Spoleto by providing audio/video recordings of my performances. I will upload these performances onto the Honors pages on Facebook or YouTube, as well as my e-portfolio. Writing a journal and documenting my progress on videotape will not only function as a vehicle for presenting my experiences, but also as a way to access the valuable knowledge I will receive from the festival in my future course of study. I am sure that I will refer to these documents many times throughout my training in vocal performance.
4. Advisor (list the person’s name, title, and contact information)
Dr. Barbara Paver, Professor of Voice
