Honors Experiential Learning Project Proposal Form – Creative Arts
Project Information
1. Provide a brief overview/abstract of your proposed honors experiential learning project.
The Vianden Festival of Music is a special music program in Luxembourg that works to create a secluded environment to promote intensive study in vocal performance. Students participating in the festival meet with a private teacher twice a week, work with an accomplished opera director for performance experience twice a week, as well as daily diction coaching in French, German, Italian and Russian and special work in vocal chamber music. I will be participating in the Vianden Music festival from August 15th to August 27th.
2. Clearly state how each of the following elements will be exhibited in your work:
3. Reflection & Dissemination
I consider the reflection component essential in solidifying and cultivating the information that I will learn during this music festival. I expect to keep a detailed journal of my experiences, challenges, and improvements during the festival, as well as compiling a reflection essay and perhaps a scrapbook at the end of the project. However, written and visual material will probably not be adequate in displaying what I accomplish during my time in Luxembourg. Thus, I plan to document my experiences with the Vianden Festival on some kind of audio or video recording. Due to copyright laws, I am not sure how much I will be allowed to record during the program (I would love to record the required final performance at the end of the festival, but I am not sure if this will be possible). If I am unable to record my progress and experiences during the program, I plan to hold a recital at the end of my experience in order to exhibit the vocal, technical, and diction improvements I have gained with such vigorous training. I will record this recital and hopefully upload it on the Honors pages on Facebook or YouTube, as well as my e-portfolio. Writing a journal and documenting my progress on videotape will not only be key in presenting my experiences to future employers, but also allow me access to Vianden’s wealth of information during my future course of study. I am sure that I will refer to these documents many times throughout my training in vocal performance.
