Honors Experiential Learning Project Proposal Form - Creative Arts
Project Information
1. Provide a brief overview/abstract of your proposed honors experiential learning project.
SongFest is a prestigious music festival designed to provide intensive study and training for talented young singers in a professional, progressive and positive environment. Instruction includes performing master classes as well as song literature classes, movement, repertoire classes, diction, and individual coachings. SongFest is unique in its emphasis on the exploration of concert art song, a timeless and growing genre in the realm classical vocal music outside the world of opera. Above all, SongFest emphasizes the promotion of new works; this year, eminent coaches and famous composers like William Bolcom, Jake Heggie, Martin Katz, Libby Larsen, and William Sharp will provide invaluable instruction to the few young singers accepted into the festival.
2. Clearly state how each of the following elements will be exhibited in your work (refer to the first two pages of this document with the full description of what is expected in each of these areas).
3. Reflection & Dissemination
I expect to keep a detailed blog of my classes, challenges, and improvements during the festival. I also plan to write a reflective essay describing my experiences working with new composers in LA and explaining the importance of promoting new works. Along with these written works, I will present real evidence of my work in LA by providing audio/video recordings of my performances, when possible (there are copyright restrictions on many of the newer works). I will upload these performances onto the Honors pages on Facebook or YouTube, as well as my e-portfolio. Writing a blog and documenting my progress on videotape will not only function as a vehicle for presenting my experiences, but also as a way to access the valuable knowledge I will receive from the festival in my future course of study. I am sure that I will refer to these documents many times throughout my training in vocal performance.
